One Laplace, Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the editorial travel media website Glos Travel (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy (the "Policy") explains how we handle your personal information in accordance with the Japanese Act on the Protection of Personal Information ("APPI") and other applicable laws and guidelines.

We comply with applicable Japanese law and other applicable norms — including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — for personal information that we hold, and we review and improve this Policy from time to time.

2. Personal information we collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Name, email address, and the content of your inquiry submitted through our contact form (provided via Google Forms).
  • Email address if you opt in to a newsletter or similar feature in the future (you will be notified separately at the time of any such launch).

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • IP address, user agent, referring URL, pages viewed, date and time of visit, time spent on page, screen resolution, approximate location (city level), and language preference.
  • Identifiers set by cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy for details).
  • Interaction data such as scrolling and clicks (only when Microsoft Clarity is active).

2.3 Information from third parties

  • Aggregated reports provided by analytics services such as Google Analytics 4, derived from the data described in Section 2.2.

We do not intentionally collect "special-care-required personal information" (such as race, creed, or medical history).

3. Purposes of use

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  1. To respond to inquiries and maintain records of correspondence;
  2. To improve the content and features of the Site and to plan future content;
  3. To analyse traffic and usage of the Site (Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity);
  4. To deliver, measure, and frequency-cap advertising (only with your consent — see Section 12 of this Policy and the Cookie Policy);
  5. To measure conversions originating from affiliate links;
  6. To prevent unauthorised access, spam, impersonation, and other abuse, and to operate the Site securely;
  7. To comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests from public authorities; and
  8. To notify you of changes to this Policy and other important matters.

If we change the purposes of use beyond what is reasonably related to the original purposes, we will publish the change on the Site.

4. Disclosure to third parties

We do not disclose personal information to third parties except in the following cases:

  1. With your consent;
  2. As required by law;
  3. When necessary to protect a person's life, body, or property and obtaining consent is difficult;
  4. When particularly necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound upbringing of children and obtaining consent is difficult; or
  5. When cooperating with a national or local government or its delegate in the performance of statutory duties.

Provision to processors entrusted with the handling of personal information under Section 5 below is not a "third-party provision" under the APPI.

5. Service providers (entrusted processing)

We entrust the handling of personal information, in whole or in part, to service providers within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use. We require these providers, by contract, to implement appropriate safeguards and we supervise them as necessary and appropriate.

We may update this list as our operations change, and we will reflect updates in this Policy.

The handling of personal information by destination operators reached by clicking affiliate links on the Site (such as Klook, Booking.com, and Airalo) is outside our control and is governed by each operator's own privacy policy.

6. International transfers

Several providers listed in Section 5 are based in the United States, and personal information is transferred outside Japan accordingly. In line with Article 28 of the APPI, we reflect in this Policy information about the personal-information protection regimes and safeguards in destination jurisdictions, and we verify that each provider maintains appropriate safeguards (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) where applicable.

7. Security measures

We take the following measures to prevent the loss, destruction, leakage, or unauthorised alteration of personal information:

  • Organisational: appointment of a personal information protection manager; periodic review of handling status.
  • Personnel: training of officers and employees; confidentiality obligations.
  • Physical: access control to areas where personal information is handled; protection of devices and media from theft.
  • Technical: access controls, encryption of communications (TLS), and protection against unauthorised access.
  • Foreign-environment awareness: assessment of legal regimes in countries where personal information is handled overseas.

8. Response to data leakage

If a leakage, loss, destruction, or other incident affecting personal information ("incident") occurs or is suspected to have occurred, we will promptly investigate the facts and root cause and implement preventive measures, in accordance with our internal procedures.

Where an incident triggers the notification requirements of Article 26 of the APPI or any other applicable law, we will report to the Personal Information Protection Commission and notify the affected individuals within the methods and timeframes required by law. Once material facts have been ascertained, we will provide reasonable information to users through a notice on the Site or, where applicable, via the email address you have provided.

9. Your rights and how to exercise them

9.1 Information about retained personal data

In accordance with Article 32 of the APPI, the following information about retained personal data is published here:

  • Name, address, and representative of the personal information handler: see Section 1
  • Purposes of use: see Section 3
  • Procedure for requests for disclosure and similar matters: see this Section 9
  • Where to file complaints: see Section 14

9.2 The rights you have

You may make the following requests in respect of your retained personal data held by us:

  • Notification of the purposes of use
  • Disclosure (including provision in electronic form)
  • Correction, addition, or deletion of inaccurate data
  • Cessation of use, erasure, or stoppage of third-party provision
  • Disclosure of records of third-party provision

9.3 How to make a request

Please contact us using the details set out in Section 14. We may ask you to provide information we reasonably need to verify your identity. We will respond within two weeks of receiving your request, in principle. If a response will take longer because of the nature of the request, we will let you know.

We currently process requests at no charge. If a fee becomes operationally necessary, we will set a reasonable amount and reflect the change in this Policy.

10. Retention period

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes set out in this Policy or as required by applicable law. Information related to inquiries is generally retained for three years after closure of the matter, after which it is deleted or anonymised. Analytics data is retained for the period set by the relevant analytics service (the default for Google Analytics 4 is 14 months and may be adjusted by configuration).

11. Children's personal information

The Site is not intended primarily for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 and will promptly delete any such information if we become aware of it.

12. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, understand how it is used, and (in the future) deliver advertising. Cookies that require consent are activated only after you have made a choice through the cookie consent banner shown on your first visit (we implement Google Consent Mode v2). 13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect legal or operational changes. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Site or by re-displaying the cookie consent banner, as appropriate. By continuing to use the Site after changes take effect, you are deemed to have accepted the revised Policy.

15. Governing law and jurisdiction

This Policy is governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with this Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance.
